Beyond!

We're so glad to see so many of you lovely people here tonight
And we'd especially like to welcome all the representatives
Of Illinois Law Enforcement Community
Who've chosen to join us here in the Palace Hotel Ballroom today...

We do sincerely hope you all enjoy the show,
and remember people, that no matter who you are
and what you do to Live, Thrive and Survive
There are some things that make us ALL the SAME...

I did a webcast today, lots of folks shows up. We covered some good things that are available to today's developer...namely the Starter Kits available at www.asp.net, and going beyond the basics of setting up and using them. There are frameworks developed around these freely downloadable code bases that are also free, that can help the new to develop be hugely productive.

We covered what the kits are, the frameworks that have evolved around them (DotNetNuke & Rainbow), and then we showed an example of how you can create your own custom modules and configure them to work within your portal. The basics  for the DNN extension can be found at a website called www.dotnetnuke.dk.

The next question is what to do Part 2 on. We're going to take a custom module, add an edit control to it, and then test that it works. Finally we'll create a redistributable package that can be used to install it on various sites.  My question is what should we use for an interesting control? I've got a number of ideas, including creating a Reporting Services viewer control and an options page, a custom feedback module, or something like that.

If you have some ideas, let me know!

A Reporting Services viewer control would be much appreciated.

DotNetNuke is great! personally I think is of great use for any developer to use as a base to develop any web application. I have been using it for a couple months now and can't wait to see the new version DNN 3.0
Visit this link to view a preview of it:

You can also register for the “30 for 3.0!“ program. If you have developed custom modules for DNN before and/or want to start doing it register at this site:

Great blog Mike!

The webcast was great ... now for a copy of the source code. I think I have followed your example, but get some weird error messages. Also, I am working on a dropdown list of reports on the viewer page. Thanks.
